Frequently asked.
Everything production coordinators and tour managers ask us before they call.
How quickly can you turn around a freight quote?
Within 24 hours for standard requests — faster if you flag it urgent. For time-critical shipments, call us directly at 888-BTS-FILM and we'll turn around a quote on the phone.
Do you handle dangerous goods by air?
Yes. BTS is IATA certified for dangerous goods — lithium batteries, pyrotechnics, CO2 systems, flammable liquids. We handle DG compliance documentation, packing certifications, and carrier coordination for DG shipments worldwide.
What is an ATA Carnet and do you manage them end-to-end?
An ATA Carnet is an international customs document that allows temporary importation of professional equipment without paying import duties. BTS prepares, manages, and reconciles Carnets for all of our international production and touring clients — from the initial equipment list through final re-exportation.
Can you ship to remote filming locations — not just major cities?
Yes. We've delivered to deserts in New Mexico, remote locations in Iceland, mountaintop locations in New Zealand, and island locations with no commercial freight infrastructure. Remote location delivery is a specialty, not an exception.
How does Withholding Tax reclaim work for touring artists?
Many countries withhold a percentage of touring revenue paid to foreign artists — sometimes 25–30%. BTS's financial services team identifies territories where reclaim is possible, prepares the filings, and recovers the withheld funds on behalf of touring clients. We currently reclaim in 14+ countries.
Do you offer bonded storage at production markets?
Yes — BTS operates secure bonded storage in Los Angeles (Burbank facility) and has bonded warehouse relationships in Atlanta, New Orleans, Vancouver, and New York. Gear stored with BTS ships directly from the cage to anywhere in the world when you're ready.
What is chargeable weight and why does it matter?
Airlines charge based on the greater of actual weight or volumetric (dimensional) weight. A large, light shipment — like a lighting rig — is often charged on volumetric weight rather than actual weight. Use our chargeable weight calculator to estimate before booking, or ask BTS to model it for you.
Do you have 24/7 availability?
Yes. Our Los Angeles and Pinewood Studios offices are staffed around the clock for urgent shipments. Call either number — 888-BTS-FILM (US) or +44 845 834 0009 (UK) — at any hour.
What is the difference between FCL and LCL?
FCL (Full Container Load) means your cargo fills an entire ocean container — faster transit and no sharing. LCL (Less than Container Load) means your cargo shares space with other shippers — more cost-effective for smaller volumes. BTS advises on which makes sense for your shipment based on volume, timing, and budget.
Can you handle oversized or out-of-gauge cargo?
Yes. We've moved RORO vehicles, generators, production trailers, and oversized set pieces by both air (charter) and ocean (flat rack containers). Out-of-gauge cargo requires specialist carriers and routing — BTS has the network to make it happen.
