Production road cases stacked in a secure cage
Everybody has made this call

“Is my 50mm in Burbank?”

It's prep. Somebody needs a lens. It might be in your cage, or it might have gone out with second unit three weeks ago and never come back.

There's a spreadsheet from the last wrap. Nobody trusts it, because two people kept editing it, one of them stopped halfway through the load-out, and the version that got emailed round on the Friday was already three trucks out of date. So the answer costs four phone calls, a drive to Sun Valley, and a maybe.

Storage companies rent you a box and never look inside it. Asset software tracks what a company owns, not what it's holding for somebody else. Neither one answers you.

Now you get one line. 50mm f/1.4 prime. Road Case 14, Cage BTS7, Sun Valley. Off your phone, wherever you're standing.

Scan out at load-in. Scan in at wrap.

One sticker per case, one tap per case. Your crew scans the load onto the truck and the list updates itself, so at 5am nobody is standing at the roller door with a clipboard, and nobody is retyping it into a spreadsheet at midnight, and nobody is arguing next Tuesday about what actually went out. It just says.

One scan takes the whole case

Scan a road case and the forty things inside it go too. Nobody itemises a G&E case at 6am, so we don't ask them to. The case is the unit. The contents follow it.

Search reaches inside the case

Type 50mm. It finds the lens, then names the case, the cage and the site holding it. That lens never had a sticker of its own. It came in on a packing list.

Know what left with second unit

Say where a case went and when it's due back. Stage 4, back Friday. Anything late pins itself to the top of the list, and at 9am you get one digest naming every piece that has run over, instead of forty separate pings about the same truck that everybody mutes by the second week.

Condition on the record

Photograph a case when it lands, and again when something gets broken. Six months later an adjuster asks what it looked like on arrival. You have a photo with a timestamp.

Manifests, cage lists, carnets

Pull a cage list by shelf. A manifest with pieces and chargeable weight worked out on the right divisor, so a 42.5kg case measuring 97 by 58 by 61 bills as the 57.2kg it really is by air rather than whatever somebody guessed on the phone. Carnet schedules export. You stop retyping them the week before you fly.

Print a label without calling us

Need one for something new? There's a button right on your cage's page. Set how many, up to twenty at a time, and it queues straight to the printer on the floor. Each one comes out with a QR sized to fill the sticker and a short code underneath, easy to read off over the phone when scanning isn't an option. Lose one, and reprinting the same code takes one tap on the item's page. Nothing about its history moves when you do.

Add your own crew, drop them when the job wraps

A production assistant needs to check gear out for the day, or a set dresser only needs a week. Add their email yourself, right from your dashboard, and pull them back off the moment the job's done. No call to ops, no password to issue, no per-seat fee to argue about.

BTS Cages on a phone — scan in, scan out, and every case checked into a cage, with buttons to create and reprint inventory labels
It has to survive a 6am truck call

Stick it. Scan it. Search it.

Stick it. Need a label for something new? Tap Create inventory label on your cage's page, say how many, up to twenty at a time, and it prints on the spot: a QR sized to fill the sticker, with BTS worked into the middle so it reads as yours from three feet away, and a short code underneath for whenever you're reading it out over the phone instead of scanning it.

Scan it. Phone camera, one tap, case is out. Say where it's going and when it's due. That's your whole load-out.

Search it. From a hotel, from Stage 12, from a terminal at 1am. Type what you're after, read where it is.

Lost a sticker off a case that's already checked in? Reprint the same code from that item's page. Same QR, same history, nothing typed twice.

Getting in takes your email address and nothing else. No password to set, forget, or hand around a production the week it wraps. Add a coordinator in seconds, and pull their access the same way when the job's done.

Why gear moves on site

Look from anywhere. Gear checks in and out at the warehouse, so the list matches what physically moved.

On the Monday a case doesn't come back from Atlanta and somebody has to say who had it last, a log that anyone could have typed from a hotel bar in another state is worth exactly nothing, which is why yours can't be.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

What does the inventory cost?

Nothing extra. It comes with the cage. No per-user fees, no seat licences, so your whole crew can have it.

Do I need an app?

No. It's a web page. Any phone, any browser. Put it on your home screen if you want it to feel like an app.

Can other clients see my gear?

No. You see yours and nothing else. That's checked on every single request, not hidden in the interface.

What happens the first time we bring gear in?

Staff sets up your cage and your login before your first drop-off. After that, labelling and checking things in is yours: stick a blank label on a new case, scan it, and it's on the list.

Do I have to itemise every case?

Only if you want to. Most productions itemise the cases that matter and leave the bulk gear alone. A case with no list reads “contents not tracked”, never “empty”, and on a claim that difference is the whole argument.

Can I add my crew?

Yes, free, and you don't need us for it. Add an email address from your dashboard and they're in. Pull it again the day the job wraps. No passwords, ever.

Can I check gear out from the road?

You can look from anywhere and fix details from anywhere. Gear checks in and out at the warehouse, so the list always matches what actually moved.

What if a sticker gets scuffed off?

Reprint it yourself. Every sticker carries a short code as well as the QR, so if you can still read that, find the item and hit reprint. Same code, same history, off the printer on the floor.

Can I get my inventory as a spreadsheet?

Any time. There's an export button and it's your data. If your own system wants to read it directly, we can issue a read-only key.

Can I see who's opened my carnet schedule or paperwork?

Yes. Every time BTS staff opens your equipment schedule to file a carnet, it's logged with a name and a time, and you can see that log yourself. That's the only door into your contents we keep, and it's one you can watch.
