Chargeable Weight Calculator.
Air freight is billed on the greater of actual weight or volumetric (dimensional) weight. Enter your cargo dimensions and find the chargeable weight instantly.
How chargeable weight works
Airlines and freight forwarders charge based on whichever is greater: the actual weight of the shipment or the volumetric weight (also called dimensional weight). Volumetric weight is calculated by dividing the cargo volume by a standard factor — 6,000 cm³/kg for metric, 366 in³/lb for imperial.
A large, light shipment — like a lighting rig or a costume rack — will often be charged on volumetric weight rather than actual weight. Knowing the chargeable weight before you book lets you compare carrier options and budget accurately.
Note: Chargeable weight formulas may vary slightly by carrier and route. Ocean freight uses CBM (cubic metres) rather than volumetric weight. Contact BTS for carrier-specific rates and any shipment that includes dangerous goods, oversized pieces, or time-critical requirements.
